WARREN, Ohio - Police are investigating a report filed by a woman who says she struggled with a man who stole her purse in the Jamestown Village Plaza parking lot.

The 53-year-old victim tells police she had just finished shopping at Giant Eagle around noon on Saturday and was on her way to her car with a buggy of groceries, when a man walked up and began talking to her.

The woman says that the stranger told her that his son was sick.

When she told them she wasn't going to give him any money, she says the man became agitated and grabbed her arm, pulling at her purse.

She says the assailant yanked the purse from her hand, twisting her fingers as he did so.

The woman says she attempted to chase the suspect until she could see him no more.

The victim went into the bank right away and cancelled her debit card and checking account. She was advised to contact her mobile provider about her stolen phone.

The woman told police she would seek medical attention for her injured hand.

Police detectives are reviewing surveillance tape in hopes of identifying the suspect.
