After being injured in a car accident, a Lakeview High School student’s road to recovery leads him across the stage for graduation to receive his diploma.

Kenny DelPiero was a passenger in a car that crashed after traveling at a high rate of speed.

He broke his back as a result of accident, but he didn't experience any other physical injuries.

DelPiero has been released from the hospital and has started his process to recovery.

He wears a full torso brace as he works back up to daily activities.

His mother says the tragic accident can teach an important life lesson.

“It's okay to be a teenager and it's okay to have fun, but think wisely. It almost cost my son his life,” said Gina DelPiero, Kenny's mother.

Kenny is enlisted in the Army and was scheduled to leave after graduation.  He is working and hoping to progress enough to become a soldier.

Kenny is also a student at Trumbull Career & Technical Center, and he will take part in the senior completion ceremony on Tuesday at Packard Music Hall.
