A Hermitage couple is being held in the Mercer County Jail on $250,000 bond, accused of using stolen credit card numbers to buy thousands of dollars worth of merchandise.

Police say they arrested Abdul Rauf Sani, 31, and Alizabeth Ellen Sani, 36, Thursday on charges of access device fraud, identity theft, receiving stolen property, and criminal conspiracy.

According to police, the arrests come after a four month long investigation that revealed the husband and wife used the stolen credit card numbers to buy thousands of dollars worth of electronics, furniture, plumbing fixtures, household items, clothing and automotive parts.

Police say some victims are local and others are scattered across the United States.

In April, investigators searched the Sani residence and two rented self-storage units in Hermitage.

Police say much of the fraudulently obtained merchandise had been shipped directly to their home or the storage units using false names or stolen identities.

Some merchandise was shipped to local stores and picked up by Abdul, according to police.

Abdul, who was born in Ghana, admitted to police that he he obtained the illegally acquired items, intending to ship them to Africa to pay a debt.

Police say the storage lockers also contained 20 gallons of paint and an estimated 30 thousand t-shirts in various colors that were purchased using the stolen credit card account numbers.

Both were arraigned in District Court. They are scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing next Thursday.
