Youngstown Police have boarded up a southside home Thursday afternoon after authorities say it became a "nuisance".

According to Staff Inspector Lt. Brian Butler, the East Boston Avenue house has been raided twice, shot up, and had been a part of previous home invasions.

Butler says closing up the home was prioritized because of its close proximity to the Taft Elementary School and the large number of community complaints received regarding the house.

Police say they hope boarding the house can help revitalize and ease problems in the neighborhood.

The YPD Vice and Community Policing Units worked together on the Thursday operation.

The two units were serving an abatement filed through the Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas.

The house's owner, according to Butler, is currently out on bond and will be due in court for a hearing within the next ten days.

Butler says to expect more buildings to be boarded up this summer, as the department will be taking a more proactive approach to nuisance houses.
