An Ohio Highway Patrolman ended up in the hospital after saving a tow truck driver from being seriously injured during a three vehicle crash along Interstate 80.

The accident occurred as Trooper Ken Robbins was investigating an accident along I-80 just east of Ohio Turnpike ramp Monday morning.

The OSP cruiser and a tow truck were stopped along the median when a truck veered out of control and struck the cruiser and the tow truck.

The Highway Patrol says Trooper Robbins heard the oncoming truck and pushed tow truck driver Anthony Jeswald out of the harm's way.

However the trooper was struck by his own patrol car.

Jeswald wasn't seriously injured, but the trooper and the driver of the truck, Glen Blank, 73, of Baden, Pa., were taken to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Youngstown for treatment of minor injuries.

Investigators say Blank was wearing a seat belt at the time of crash.

The Highway Patrol says it is continuing to investigate.
