Record home sales across Ohio posted in June

Posted: Updated:

Ohio experienced record homes sales last month, the highest level for June since 1998 when the Ohio Association of Realtors first began tracking the market.

"I see that as a trend," said John Burgan with Burgan Real Estate.  "People feel they can buy and they are jumping on the bandwagon while they can."

House prices also are rising.  Last month, the average sale price in Ohio hovered around $178,500 up nearly 4% from last year.

"Pricing a lot has to do with what people are putting in their houses and the condition of the houses.  Sometimes you don't get, if you put a new kitchen in you won't get the whole kitchen back, but you are going to get your house sold," said Burgan.

Across Ohio, the gains are being made in the sale of newly constructed homes, previously owned homes and condominiums.

"So far, it has been very, very steady and stable and that really makes a difference," said Burgan.

Burgan says houses that are priced in the $100,000 to $200,000 range are extremely popular among local buyers, because home payments are affordable with current interest rates.
