Austintown BP reopens after contaminated gas complaint
The BP gas station at the corner of Kirk Road and State Route 46 is set to reopen Thursday morning after a customer discovered the gasoline they pumped into their vehicle last Saturday was contaminated with water.

The BP gas station at the corner of Kirk Road and State Route 46 reopened Thursday morning after a customer discovered the gasoline they pumped into their vehicle last Saturday was contaminated with water.
Kyle Broughman said he put gas in his truck on Saturday and about a half mile down the road his truck completely died. Broughman said he spent about $600 in parts to fix the truck but it still wouldn't start.
When the Austintown resident took out his fuel lines, he found the gas was actually about 80% water. Broughman complained to the owner of the gas station who determined that it wasn't the load of gas, but a problem in the infrastructure. Crews have been on site since Sunday to make repairs.
"Never in a million years did I think I would pump bad gas out of a gas station," said Broughman.
Broughman said his truck is sitting at Greenwood Chevrolet waiting to get fixed. He's waiting on the gas station's insurance company to pay for it. He said after days of trying to get in touch with them, they called him back Wednesday night.
"This is very annoying right now. I've been without a vehicle for 4 days and I just got an estimate from Greenwood today. It's $776.86 to fix it right now," he said.
A spokeswoman for Erie Insurance told 21 News that once they determine what caused the damage and who is responsible, they will determine what coverage will apply.
"People who have problems have started getting calls from claims representatives. If a customer has not been called, they should receive a call soon. Our goal is to get this settled as quickly as possible," said Leah Knapp.
