Hollywood Gaming at Mahoning Valley Race Course opened two years ago in Austintown.
Local and county officials thought the racino would bring in other development to the area.
But has it?

21 News asked the Ausintown Zoning Inspector why there are still a lot of for sale signs on properties surrounding the racino.

"We thought there would be development in both retail and restaurants, Not to say it won't happen. We do get calls regarding the zoning and basic land development issues but until the plans come into the office, it's still speculation," according to inspector, Darren Crivelli.

There has been some development in the area. New hotels have popped up. "Home 2 by Hilton" is expected to open in a couple months near the Quaker Steak and Lube.
And next year the old Burger King at Clarkins Drive and route 46 will be demolished to make room for a massive new Sheetz gas station and convenience store.

A developer has also asked the township to extend Clarkins Drive so they can develop more property around the interstate.

Enviroscapes Inc. bought property across from the racino but they haven't made any plans for it public just yet.

But township zoning officials say they think they know the real reason for why there hasn't been more of a business boom in this area.

"It may have something to do with property values out there and maybe owners have to be a bit more realistic in what they are asking," says Crivelli.
