The Austintown Police Department's continued crackdown on prostitution advertised on backpage.com has resulted in the arrest of a Cortland man who allegedly profited by driving a prostitute to her appointment.

Darien Daugherty, 25, was arrested for promoting prostitution on Tuesday after undercover police say they found him in a car with a suspected prostitute that the police had arranged to meet through the “dating” section of the online classified website, backpage.com.

Alyssa Turner, 21, who told police she is currently homeless, was charged with possessing criminal tools and soliciting prostitution after officers say she quoted a price of $200 and agreed to meet them on Deer Creek Court.

Turner told police that Daugherty had contacted her through her back page ad and offered to drive girls to their appointments or drug dealers in exchange for $10 to $20 for gas money and sex.

Police say Turner's phone had the following message sent from Daugherty's phone:

“Hey there beautiful.. I'm a driver for a few of the girls on bp (Backpage), Anyways I've been seeing you post lately and was wondering if you wanted a driver. I'm 25 name is Darien Daugherty feel free to look me up on Facebook. I've been doing this for almost 2 years now. Everyone I take around does both so ik (I know) quite a few dealers in Warren. I don't “party” at all. I just like f*****g. I typically ask for $10-$20 for gas depending on how far it is. Anyways thanks for taking the time to read this. Hope you're having a good memorial day.”

Turner, who is from Cleveland, told police that she has been involved in prostitution for the past 4 to 5 months to support her addiction to heroin and because she recently became homeless.

Police say they found evidence of 102 back page ads posted by Turner, who was issued summons to appear in court.

Daugherty was booked into the Mahoning County jail and was released on bond following his arraignment on Wednesday.

Under conditions of his bond, Daugherty is forbidden from using social media or the internet.

His next hearing is set for June 21.
