NEWTON FALLS, Ohio - The discovery of new evidence could mean additional charges against Trumbull County murder suspect Austin Taylor Burke.

The 18 year old from Bristolville made his initial appearance in Newton Falls Court on Thursday by video arraignment.

Judge Philip Vigorito set bond for Burke at $1-Million on the murder charge and told Burke if he is convicted he is facing 15 years to life in prison.

Burke is accused of shooting and killing Brandon Sample of Warren.

The 22 year old was reported missing by his parents on June 12th.

His car was discovered the next day by Niles Police near the Greenway Bike Trail off of State Street.

Sample's body was found in a remote area of Bristolville last week.

But now Burke could face even more charges because 21 News has learned that Cortland Police have found the gun and cash they believe links Burke to the armed robbery of the Cortland Pizza Joe's.

What's unclear is if the same gun could be linked to Sample's murder.

The sheriff and prosecutors were unable to be reached after hours and by the time this story was published.

On Wednesday our 21 News cameras found detectives and K9s searching the Cortland area looking for Burke.

That's where the two investigations crossed paths, both pointing to one suspect.

Burke did not have to enter a plea at this point but a preliminary hearing will be held on June 27th.

Immediately after Burke's court appearance several of his friends stood outside and came to his defense.

Darien Chaplin of Newton Falls says, "He's a really good kid and I honestly don't think he would do this.  He doesn't have it in him to kill anyone.  I wish the best for him.  I'm going to be here for him even if he does get in trouble because I've been here for him since day one."

Brittani Merten said she hoped Burke could hear her, "Keep your head up."

The group is hoping to figure out a way to hire their friend an attorney to represent him.

Burke will also now likely face a charge of aggravated robbery for the Pizza Joe's armed robbery.
