Struthers Schools appoint superintendent and principal

Posted: Updated:
STRUTHERS, Ohio -

The Struthers Board of Education held a special meeting on Thursday to appoint a superintendent and two principals for this Fall.

Pete Pirone Jr. was hired as Superintendent of the District.

Pirone was serving as Interim Superintendent since January, and previously served as assistant superintendent and middle school principal for seven years. He was also an elementary principal for four years.

"My goal is to continue to implement innovative programs to help prepare our students for life after graduation," said Pirone.

Bethany Carlson was promoted to Lead Principal of the elementary school, where she was principal for the past two years.

"We are thrilled to move Bethany into the lead principal role at SES. Her knowledge of curriculum and leadership skills make her the ideal candidate to lead the elementary school," commented Pirone.

Dave Vecchione was hired as Lead Principal at Struthers Middle School. He was previously an administrator in the McDonald School District for seven years.

Joan Jones was hired as Principal at Struthers Elementary School, with nine years of administrative experience working in Hubbard and Austintown Local Schools.

"Struthers just got even better today. This board is confident in Pete's leadership and how he will add his mark to the students of Struthers. Behind every great leader lies the team that delivers the goals. Struthers took that step by adding the skills of Mr. Vecchione and Mrs. Jones to an already outstanding team," said Board of Education President, Ron Shives.
