JOHNSTON TWP., Ohio - A fatal one-car accident shut down Route 11 southbound in Johnston Township Sunday afternoon.

A pickup truck went off of the road near the State Route 87 and State Route 5 interchange and struck several trees, before coming to rest in the wood line, according to the Trumbull County post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Officials said the passenger died and the driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

Police identified the passenger as 60-year-old Joseph Colicchie, and the driver as 60-year-old Ronald Tarquino, both of McDonald, Pa.

Helicopters arrived at the scene, closing the road, but were dismissed after the passenger was pronounced dead. 

Route 11 southbound has since been reopened.

Troopers are investigating the cause of the accident.
