New playground opens in Warren after violent shooting

Posted: Updated:
WARREN, Ohio -

In Warren, a 16-year-old was arrested for a shooting on a basketball court.

The arrest came just hours before the grand opening of a new playground next to the basketball courts.

Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership opened the Project Play Playground at Highland Terrace for the children and families of Highland Terrace. The project was funded through the William Swanston Charitable Fund, a supporting organization of the Community Foundation of the Mahoning Valley.

Organizers say this park that is now open to the public will promote safety.

"With everything that is going on, this gives our kids something to look forward to, something positive. We will keep moving forward," said  Pastor Todd Johnson. He was involved in helping with the plans for the playground.

Project Play is working towards bringing recreational activities into neighborhoods for kids.
