Muscle Connection H.S. Football Preview: McDonald's Blue Devils

Posted: Updated:

The McDonald football program has their sights set on getting back to the post season for the first time in three years.

The Blue Devils will need a big season out of their underclassman with only six seniors on the team.

"We're excited about our experience coming back. I know we have a short senior class with only six kids, but we've got a big junior class, with fourteen, and a lot of experience out of that group of kids and got some young kids coming up as sophomores ready to step in,"  said Coach Dan Williams.

McDonald returns five starters on both sides of the ball who will make a big impact this season.

"Senior Calvin Wolford, who's on the offensive and defensive line for us, started the last couple of years. He's going to be our senior go to guy up front. Outside of that, we got some skill kids back from a year ago. Alex Cintron at tailback and linebacker. We got Josh Celli who played in the secondary and filled in as running back as well. There's Nate Dean who played some defensive line for us and he's going to be a junior this year. Ali Hammond started on the offensive line," said Williams.

The Blue Devils open up the season against Brookfield, Columbiana, and Champion and expect that to be a challenge for their inexperienced skill positions.

"We got some kids on defense, especially in the secondary that got to grow up real quick. There's not a lot of time to do that. I think getting experience quick on the offensive and defensive backs, the backfield if you want to say that, is going to be important for us. Just getting better each and every week, we have to improve week by week," Williams said.
