Judge dismisses family's suit against TMHA

Posted: Updated:
WARREN, Ohio -

A federal judge has ruled in favor of the Trumbull Metropolitan Housing Authority that had been sued by members of a family claiming they were being discriminated against based on disabilities.

U.S. District Judge Benita Pearson ruled against two adults and their two children who complained to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development that TMHA refused to work with the family who needed accommodations for special needs.

According to the lawsuit, the husband needed dialysis treatment for diabetes and renal disease. The couple also had a child with special needs.

The lawsuit, filed by the U.S. Attorney's office on behalf of HUD, asked for unspecified damages and sought an order barring TMHA from discriminating against the family.

Judge Pearson ruled that the complaint against TMHA had been filed beyond the expiration of the statute of limitations.
