U.S. Senator Pat Toomey made a stop in Mercer today as part of a statewide economic tour.

Toomey was joined by business owners and community leaders from across Mercer County to learn a little more about their thoughts on the economy and their concerns.

NLMK Steel in Farrell was one business to speak out with concerns that the latest round of tariffs may cut a significant of jobs.

"There's not a lot of time for them. This is going to be urgent for me. There's going to be 750 people, as I understand it, that work in their facility here in Mercer County. We can't afford to have those jobs in jeopardy. That's 750 families that depend on those jobs which are good-paying jobs, so I think there's a real urgency in getting this solved," said Senator Toomey.

NLMK argues that they should be exempt from the tariffs since the steel they need is not available in the United States,

Toomey said he will be sitting down with the president to look into if the company can qualify for the tax exemption.
