Posted: Updated:

Responders in the Valley are doing their part to prepare for active shooter situations.

This week, 59 Boardman police officers, as well as some fire officials and dispatch workers, spent their time refreshing skills on what to do in these types of situations.

The training focuses on different tactics that will work well with training teachers go through for active shooters.

Mike Sweeny, Boardman Police Sgt., told 21 News, "It's not necessarily in conjunction with the training, but we want to make sure both training's mesh together in the event so that if we ever have to do this, everybody's on the same page."

This program's curriculum is national and the skills can be used in more than just schools, by training them how to react to a general shooting in any indoor area.
