Man arrested in Warren after stealing from Subway restaurant, punching woman

WARREN, Ohio -

Warren Police say a man suspected of stealing a tip jar from a Subway restaurant fell on the victim's mother who rushed to help her daughter.

A woman working at Subway restaurant on Parkman Road on Wednesday called her mother, instead of the police,  and told her a man had just stolen the tip jar sitting on the counter and then fled on a bicycle.

According to the police report,  the victim's mother happened to be on Parkman Road and found a possible suspect in an empty parking lot on Tod Avenue. 

The woman says she jumped out of her car and confronted the suspect, later identified as Roderick Lewis, and asked him why he had stolen the tips and told him to give them back.

Lewis, according to the woman, denied taking the tip jar and pulled out a pocket knife.

As he was attempting to open the knife, Lewis lost his balance and fell on Tiggett, knocking both of them to the ground according to the report. 

The mom says Lewis punched her and rode away on his bike.

Police say there appeared to be a knot on the woman's forehead as well as a cut on her right knee. She denied medical treatment.

An officer who spotted Lewis used a taser to subdue him.  After being treated at St. Joseph hospital, Lewis was booked into the county jail.
