MAHONING COUNTY, Ohio - It was the "Bee Man" to the rescue, and the pest control expert's battle with European hornets has gone viral.

The "Bee Man," Travis Watson of Struthers, approached an old El Camino on a property off Bandy Road with his camera recording.

Inside, Watson encountered a huge nest of European hornets, the biggest he's ever seen.

The European Hornet has been around for a long time, but it is relatively new to this area.

"We've only started seeing these within the last five years, so they're pretty new in our area still," said Watson.

He said they can also sting repeatedly.

"That's one of the dangerous things about them. Even though they're docile away from their nest they do defend their nest aggressively if you're within 20 feet of their nest, you're taking a risk," said Watson.

If you do get stung, be alert for signs of anaphylaxis if you're allergic.

"I always carry EpiPen with me just in case," said Watson.

The homeowner, Richard Sabina, said the nest wasn't there the last time he cut the grass.

"In ten days or two weeks at the most they built that nest from the back of the seat up into the headliner,"  said Sabina.

These hornets are not pollinators, so unlike honey bees, they are eliminated and not relocated.

Watson said if you encounter the European hornet, don't try to remove the nest yourself.

"Homeowners should definitely get professional help whenever they get these," said Watson.
