CANFIELD, Ohio - An officer with the Lisbon Police Department faces charges after a Mahoning County Sheriff's Deputy says his cruiser was nearly struck head-on by the police officer's pickup truck in Canfield.

According to a police report, the oncoming pickup swerved into the deputy's lane of traffic on Canfield Road Wednesday.

The deputy said he pulled the truck over after it nearly struck two mailboxes and swerved left of center.

The report says the driver, 22-year-old Trevor O'Rourke of Canfield, smelled of alcohol.

The deputy says O'Rourke, who flashed his Lisbon police badge, stumbled and was unsteady when he got out of his truck. His speech was described as slurred and garbled.

O'Rourke, who said he had three mixed drinks at the Outback Steakhouse, was arrested after failing to complete a field sobriety test.

The report says O'Rourke began to cry as he was being cited for refusing to submit to a blood-alcohol test and failing to stay within marked lanes.

Because O'Rourke has a 9 mm semi-automatic pistol with him, he is also charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Lisbon Police Chief Mike Abraham was not available Friday morning to provide information about the status of O'Rourke with the department while his case is processed in Mahoning County Court.

O'Rourke was scheduled for arraignment on Friday.
