YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

Youngstown Police Officers followed a trail of stolen cigars Wednesday night after the clerk at an East Side business said she was robbed and pistol-whipped by three men.

The 21-year-old woman working at the Dollar General on McGuffey Road at around 9 pm told police three men, two of them carrying guns, demanded money from the cash register.

She said one of the men struck her in the head with a pistol before jumping over the counter and helping themselves to Pom Cigarillos, as well as other cigars and the cash register drawer.

The clerk told officers that the robbers went into the store's back room to get the keys to the register.

The robbers ran out of the store toward Jacobs road according to the victim.

Police couldn't locate the men but did find nine packages of cigarillos that had been dropped while the suspects fled.

The clerk's head was bleeding. She was treated by an ambulance crew.

Detectives will be looking at the store's surveillance video in hopes of identifying the robbers.
