AUSTINTOWN TWP., Ohio - Federal investigators and detectives from the Austintown Police Department are working together to find a scammer who allegedly stole more than $50,000 from a nearby business.
Police say the owner of a business on Victoria Road called the police to report that sometime in early October they were the victims of a scam.
According to the report, the business received an email from one of their suppliers stating that they had an unpaid invoice for $52,294.64.
The owner of the business said they were directed to use a new payment method and paid the invoice.
Several days later they were reportedly contacted by the supplier, who said the invoice hadn't been paid yet.
A report says it was determined that the supplier's computer system had been hacked and the $52,000 had been sent to an unknown suspect.
