Leak in Beeghly Center causes YSU women - Northern Kentucky postponement

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio -

Mother Nature played havoc with the Youngstown State and Northern Kentucky women's basketball teams.

A leak in the roof at Beeghly Center caused a postponement until Monday at 1:00 pm.  The teams waited more than an hour from the 1:00 pm scheduled start before it was determined the game could not be played today.

"With the amount of snow, it got underneath some of the vents and caused periodic dripping, " said Rick Love, Associate Director of Athletics for YSU.

The dripped was in two spots; both in front of the YSU bench.

Safety was a clear factor in making the decision to postpone. "You just can't play when a player's safety is involved," said YSU women's coach John Barnes.

Administrators for both schools looked at possibly playing inside Stambaugh Stadium but that was not possible due to NCAA women's basketball standards.

YSU maintenance personnel are hoping to correct the issue prior to Monday's tip-off.

"There's never any guarantees with weather in Northeast Ohio," said Love. "But we feel confident of a solution."
