VIENNA TWP., Ohio -

The Vienna Township Trustees met Monday night to receive the resignation of Police Sergeant Michael Sheehy formally.

The former Vienna Township Police Officer, who was also a Mathews Schools Resource Officer, was indicted by the Trumbull County Grand Jury earlier this month.

Sheehy is accused of stealing guns and money from the Vienna Township Police Department. He is also charged with possession of fentanyl. It is uncertain precisely what Sheehy is accused of stealing from the school.

According to a criminal complaint, Officer Sheehy allegedly stole two AR-15 rifles valued at $2,400 from the Vienna Township Police Department and used the department's vehicle lockout kit to break into a township police vehicle and steal $700.

Sheehy, 32, was placed on leave from the school district on January 14.

Sheehy's bond has been set at $15,000 and is under house arrest. Sheehy is also ordered to complete an inpatient recovery program at First Step Recovery as a condition of his bond.

Officer Sheehy, who presented DARE programs in the school district, was hired as a resource officer for the district's three school buildings in September.

His next court hearing is set for March 5.
