Everyone in the community is invited to join the Drive It Home campaign's True Blue Friday in support of GM Lordstown workers.
Campaigner organizers are asking the public to join them by wearing blue on Friday, March 8.
The goal is to make sure GM Headquarters in Detroit knows that the Mahoning Valley wants to build future vehicles.
Friday is the day GM Lordstown was expected to idle, though some workers have already wrapped up their final shifts at the plant.
True Blue Friday supports the workers that will be walking out of the Lordstown plant for the foreseeable future.
"Kind of a symbolic piece, but that symbolism is important," James Dignan said, president and CEO of the Youngstown-Warren Regional Chamber.
"It's all about getting the word out and making sure folks know that this isn't the end, that we're still here, we want to be part of GM's future."
Dignan joined WFMJ Weekend Today Sunday to explain how the Drive It Home campaign has influenced state and local leaders to speak up and reach out to General Motors executives.
Here is what you can do to support True Blue Friday:
1. Wear blue on Friday, March 8th
2. Take a picture with co-workers, by yourself or with your GM vehicle.
3. Post the picture to social media.
4. Use the hashtags #DriveItHomeOhio #SaveGMLordstown #SaveLordstown and #GMInvestInUs.
5. Email the photo to info@driveithomeohio.com and the Drive it Home Campaign will share it on their social media pages and send a copy along with all others submitted to GM CEO Mary Barra.
For more information visit the drive it home campaign's website here.
Lordstown High School is also taking a large-scale group photo in the parking lot Tuesday at 3:45 in the afternoon.
They ask people to wear blue for that show of support as they hope to deliver the message that students in the village could be the next generation that builds GM vehicles.
Anyone who drives a GM vehicle to stand by it for the photo at the high school on March 6.
