OSP identifies victims of deadly crash in Campbell
A student in the Lowellville School system and a parent died in rollover crash in Campbell. CAMPBELL, Ohio - A student in the Lowellville School system and a parent died in rollover crash in Campbell.
The Ohio State Highway patrol tells 21 News that 41-year-old Paul "Mike" Pickett died when the Jeep Wrangler he was driving went off Sixth Street Thursday morning, struck an embankment, went airborne, and rolled over.
Marcus Pickett, age 11, who was being driven to school in Lowellville was pronounced dead at the scene.
Information from the school district's website reveals that Marcus Pickett was a straight-A honor roll student.
Family members tell 21 News that Marcus was "the sweetest boy".
Those family members say they aren't sure what happened to cause the crash.
Mike Pickett is descirbed by family as a man who "wanted everything for his kids" and as a kind man.
Twelve-year-old Passenger, Leena Pickett, was taken to St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Wilson Avenue was closed until 10:30 am while the crash was being investigated.
Superintendent Geno Thomas issued the following statement from the all-call:
"This morning, our school received some very tragic news. A student and parent died in a car accident on the way to school. We are all feeling the overwhelming grief of this horrific event. We visited classrooms to inform the students, answer any questions they have and provide any support needed with grief counselors. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family. Also, grief counselors will be available for the students and staff as long as it is needed.
