Medical marijuana dispensary holds grand opening in Warren

WARREN, Ohio - It's been legal to sell medical marijuana in Ohio for just over two months, but only 13 of the 56 dispensaries are open.
One of those holding a grand opening today is Green Leaf Medical Marijuana dispensary in Warren, located at 2932 Youngstown Road Southeast.
The Warren dispensary opened its doors for the first time on Tuesday. If you have a doctor's recommendation, you can walk into the dispensary and get your medical marijuana for conditions like epilepsy and Parkinson's. And today one man shared with 21 News how this drug helps alleviate his pain.
Clayton Osburn of Warren walked out of Green Leaf Medical Marijuana dispensary with just what the doctor ordered.
"That's a two-day supply. (Showing us his small white prescription bottle). It's 2.83 grams, okay. But like I said there's no way you can go through that in two days. It's going to last me more like two-weeks," Osburn said.
Osburn, an amputee, tells 21 News he needs it for chronic pain, and he's thankful for medical marijuana because it keeps him from using a prescription opiate for the pain that he is often worried about getting addicted.
"I deal more with nerve pain and phantom pain, but yeah, it works just as well if not better than the pain pills," Osburn said.
Osburn and others realize there is still somewhat of a stigma around the use of medical marijuana, but want the general public to know you're not allowed to "smoke" the flower.
"You have to put it in a little vaporizer which just heats it hot, and you know you inhale the vapors that come off of it," Osburn tells 21 News.
But it's a drug and an industry still going through growing pains as it puts down roots in Ohio. Insurance does not cover it. Osburn paid $50 for his prescription, but he's thankful this day has finally come.
Osburn says, "It's been a long time coming."
