AUSTINTOWN TWP., Ohio -

People living in an Austintown neighborhood were witness to a police pursuit that went through front yards and ended in a crash.

It all started Wednesday afternoon when a state trooper lost sight of a rented Ford F-150 pickup truck he tried to pull over on I-80.

When an Austintown Police Officer spotted the truck On Beechcrest Drive, the truck veered across a front lawn, crossing Route 46 into the College Park neighborhood.

Police say they began chasing the truck through the streets at speeds ranging from 40 top 50 miles per hour, twice the posted 25 mph speed limit.

According to the police report, the truck drove over several front lawns, nearly striking a car pulling out of driveway on Tulane Avenue.

At the dead end of Tulane, the truck drove into the woods.

Police believe the suspect was trying to drive the truck through the woods and escape into the adjacent Heron's Landing neighborhood.

The truck didn't make it that far.

After traveling about 70 feet into the woods, the truck ran over several trees until striking a large tree, where the truck came to a stop.

Police say the driver jumped out if the truck, dropping several items as he ran through backyards in Heron's Landing.

Officers surrounded the suspect, pulling out a Taser.

The suspect, identified as 26-year-old Cortez Collins of South Euclid, Ohio, was arrested.

Police say they found two plastic baggies filled with a white powder along Collins' escape route.

According to the police report, Collins was already wanted on warrants issued in the Cleveland area.

Now he also faces charges of tampering with evidence, failure to comply with a police order, driving under suspension, following too close, and a seat belt violation.

Cortez was also involved in the overdose of an East Liverpool police officer two years ago.
