HUBBARD, Ohio - Hubbard Elementary students came together to raise money for a classmate in need.

According to the release, Hubbard Elementary students raised more than $9,000 for third grade student Memphis Vance.

Vance was born with billary atresia, a rare disease of the liver that occurs in infants, and is awaiting a second liver transplant.

Vance is currently completing school from home due to his condition.

Throughout April, Elementary students hosted 'Pennies for Memphis', a program where students could bring in their extra pennies to donate.

Students also were able to pay one dollar to participate in a theme day each week.

According to the release, the total from April was more than $9,300.

The Hubbard Elementary School Parent Association will award Mrs. Maiorano's class with a field trip to Chuck E. Cheese for raising the most money.

Mrs. Lopuchovsky's class will receive a Happy Meal lunch for raising the most money based on weight with 174 pounds.
