Ohio's two U.S. Senators are scheduled to meet with General Motor's Chief Executive Officer Mary Barra Wednesday morning in Washington D.C.

Senator Sherrod Brown tells 21 News that Mary Barra will be joined by a congressional delegation from Ohio with lawmakers from both parties.

Their big hope is to get some definitive answers from her about GM's plans for the Lordstown plant.

Since GM ended production of the Chevy Cruze at its Lordstown Assembly Plant in March, senators Rob Portman and Sherrod Brown have been lobbying GM to bring a new product there.

Senator Brown believes the recent tariffs imposed on Mexico by president Trump could have an impact on GM's production of the Blazer in that country. He also says lawmakers plan to remind her about their efforts to save GM from Bankruptcy a decade ago.

The automaker has given no indication that it intends to keep using the Lordstown facility but has announced discussions with the Workhorse Group that says it would like to build electric-powered pickup trucks at the plant.

21 News Anchor Derek Steyer is in Washington reporting on the meeting.
