COLUMBIANA, Ohio - A driver whose truck ran into a Columbiana business early Wednesday is being treated for injuries that police say are not life-threatening.

Rescue squads were called out to the area just west of the Oakmont Plaza on State Route 14 just after 7 am where the driver was trapped in the truck that ran into the Wine Connection store.

First responders had to be extra careful because, in addition to knocking over bottles of liquor and cigarette lighters, the truck was leaking fuel.

It took rescuers about a half hour to remove the driver from the truck owned by the Pittsburgh-based Fishman Finishing Solutions.

The driver, whose name has not yet been released,  was taken to Mercy Hospital in Youngstown for treatment of what police say are mostly cuts and bruises.

Columbiana Police Detective Ryan Pike told 21 News that the driver appears to be in good condition considering what he had been through.

Investigators are trying to find out if the driver fell asleep behind the wheel.

Damage to the store is extensive. The EZ Lube Express which is next to the Wine Connection, was not damaged but is expected to remain closed through Wednesday because the crash cut power to the business, according to police.

The fire department was still on the scene working to prevent leaking diesel fuel from leaking into the drainage system.
