NEW CASTLE, Pa. -

New Castle Police Chief Robert Salem tells 21 News that the Friday night shooting that left a teen dead was a senseless act by an angry father.

That father has been identified as 41-year-old Michael J. Dbiagio of Beaver Falls.

Chief Salem said that the victim, 17-year-old Darren Scott Jevcak of Lawrence County, was the boyfriend of the shooter's daughter.

Salem said that Dbiagio told police he shot Jevcak because of some behavior he didn't agree with.

New Castle police say they were called to the deadly shooting outside of a New Castle business in 1000 block of Highland Avenue Friday evening.

When officers arrived, they saw 17-year-old Darren Scott Jevcak from Lawrence County lying in the parking lot.

Jevcak was transported to UPMC Jameson Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to authorities, Dbiagio was still on the scene, and so was the weapon.

Police say that Dbiagio admitted to grabbing his firearm and driving to New Castle and shooting Jevcak when he walked out of his place of employment.

Dbiagio is being charged with criminal homicide and aggravated assault.
