We then talked to Congressman Tim Ryan on Monday after President Trump's remarks where he called for strong background checks for gun owners.
"We've got to address this. We have to put pressure on them. We are blessed to live in a democracy where our voices can be heard, where we can activate and organize and that's exactly what we are going to do until we get the action we have on this issue," Ryan said.
The congressman also called for a nationwide vigil with a 29 minute moment of silence for the victims in El Paso and Dayton.
On Sunday night, the presidential hopeful said no one feels safe anymore and called for lawmakers to put pressure on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to cancel the chamber's August recess, so they can work on passing legislation dealing with universal background checks.
"Republicans need to, quite frankly, get their s**t together and stop pandering to the NRA because people are getting killed," Ryan said during an appearance on MSNBC.
Ryan has now sent a letter calling for the Senate to vote on the House-passed gun reform bills: H.R. 8 – Bipartisan Background Checks Act and H.R. 1112 – Enhanced Background Checks Act.
According to Ryan, the House passed H.R. 8 on February 27, 2019 and H.R. 1126 on February 28, 2019.
