Tim Ryan addresses gun law rally in Kentucky

Posted: Updated:
LOUISVILLE, Ky. -

A push for stricter gun legislation that began with just a handful of people in Niles early Thursday grew to hundreds of participants by the time it reached Louisville, Kentucky later that same day.

Valley Congressman Tim Ryan arrived at Louisville's Muhammad Ali Center Thursday night as part of what was called the Caravan for Change, formed in the aftermath of mass shootings in Dayton and El Paso.

Organized by Moms Demand Action, the caravan was joined by others in cities like Akron, Columbus, Dayton, and Cincinnati, all urging Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell to call the Senate back from summer recess and take action on gun reform.

"I think all of us were super touched and hurt by what we saw happen last week. People asked me what's different this time, and I think it's the accumulation of these events that keep happening,” said Ryan at the Rally.

Senator McConnell has so far declined to bring back the Senate from its recess, but the president has assured congressional Democrats he will review a House-passed bill that expands federal background checks for gun sales.
