Demolition of East Liverpool school building to begin Tuesday

EAST LIVERPOOL, Ohio - Demolition is scheduled to begin on an East Liverpool school building on Tuesday.
The building, located at 500 Maryland Avenue is scheduled to be demolished beginning Tuesday, May 30 at 2:00 p.m.
According to an email from East Liverpool Mayor, Greg Bricker, this project was made possible thanks to a grant from the County Land Bank through the state Brownfield Program. The total awarded was approximately $1.2 million.
The building has been fully abated of all hazardous materials and is ready for demolition.
"This is a big win for the city. The city has owned this property for years and [it] has sat vacant. The Land Bank has helped the city in getting this building torn down," Mayor Bricker said.
Mayor Bricker went on to say the city hopes to attract future developers to the property.
Approximately 25 square miles of asbestos has been removed from the property.
