EDITOR'S NOTE: An earlier version of this story incorrectly identified Dollar General instead of Family Dollar.

We have a clearer picture now of how many people will lose their jobs when Family Dollar begins closing some stores in Ohio next month.

In a letter to the Ohio Department of Jobs and Family Services, Family Dollar Vice President of Human Services Michael Atcovitz revealed that the company plans to close “multiple” stores in Ohio, resulting in the layoffs of 265 people.

The letter, required under the federal Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, does not specify how many stores will close or where.

A similar WARN notice filed in Pennsylvania states Family Dollar will close six stores in Philadelphia, costing 62 jobs. The Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry website that posts such notices did not list any other Family Dollar closures as of Thursday.

The Ohio letter says that the layoffs are expected to occur around April 20th, and Family Dollar will attempt to transfer employees to other stores interested in doing so.

Family Dollar, which also operates stores under the Dollar Tree name, announced earlier this month that it plans to close nearly 1,000 stores across the country.
