A community you may have seen while driving on the Ohio Turnpike between Youngstown and Cleveland is cleaning up Thursday following damage caused by a probable tornado the night before.

Classes are canceled Thursday in the Windham Exempted School District after the Portage County Emergency Management Agency reported on its Facebook page that a tornado likely touched down in Windham Township, around Bryant Road, Route 303, Rt 82, the Ohio Turnpike, and Parkman Road.

The severe weather damaged property, closed roads, downed power lines, and disrupted eastbound traffic on the Ohio Turnpike where it's believed a tractor-trailer was blown over near Route 44.

The National Weather Service reported a house damaged on County Road 229 south of State Route 82. Drone footage shows extensive damage to a home that was shifted off the foundation.

The Portage EMA shared photos of damage including severely damaged homes, downed trees, and damaged vehicles.

Power outages, the number of which was near 300 late Wednesday in Windham, had been whittled down to fewer than 24 homes and businesses without electricity by 4:30 a.m. Thursday, according to FirstEnergy.

There were no reported injuries as of Wednesday night.

An expert from the National Weather Service is expected to assess the site on Thursday to verify if there was a tornado.

Residents may see Portage County Emergency Management staff and vehicles in neighborhoods through Thursday afternoon as they assess the damage.
