A day of remembrance for a teen killed in a drive-by shooting in Youngstown back in April of 2023.

An event celebrating the life of 15-year-old Amya Monserrat will take place Saturday, April 20 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Pioneer Pavilion on Old Furnace Road.

The event is absolutely free to attend and will feature a clown, bounce houses, stilt walkers and a caricature artist. T-shirts and hoodies will also be available for purchase.

There will also be a firework show on Brockway at 8:30 p.m. following the event.

The event is being put on by the Amya Monserrat Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping those in the Valley who lost a loved one to gun violence heal.

Amya Monserrat was killed in a drive-by shooting back in April of 2023 during a sweet 16 birthday party at Martha's Boulevard Tavern on Southern Boulevard in Youngstown.

Police say the shooting was the result of a conflict between two parties that had been brewing for a few weeks and Amya had been caught in the crossfire of the shooting.

One suspect in the shooting, 21-year-old Saun Peterson, had pled guilty to his role back in November of 2023. Court records do not show a sentencing date at this time.

The case of the other suspect, 17-year-old Danyo Sellers, who also went by the alias "Legend Pless" is still ongoing, with the juvenile court ruling to have him tried as an adult back in December.

Sellers is due back in court April 25 for a pretrial hearing.
