HUBBARD, Ohio - It has been nearly 10 years since the body of 26-year-old Cody Pitts was discovered on Orchard Avenue, just down the street from North Main Street in Hubbard.

Ahead of the anniversary of his death on March 7, 2015, Hubbard Police are giving an update on the unsolved murder case.

In March, the police asked for the public's help locating a gun believed to have been used in the crime: a Walther P-22 handgun with serial number L404221.

Hubbard Detective Sergeant Michael Banic tells 21 News that someone did turn a gun matching the make and model, but unfortunately, it was not the weapon used in the killing of Pitts.

"Even when I'm working on another case, this case does not leave my head," Banic told 21 News. "I'm always thinking about it and my goal is to resolve this case and bring the person to justice."

It is unknown what led officers to this information, but Banic believes that the gun's discovery may help solve this case.

Banic said, "It's troubling, but we don't give up. We continue to investigate this [case] like it was yesterday."

“Our community was devastated because of this act and this senseless death that occurred and it's been something we’ve never healed from,” said Hubbard Mayor Ben Kyle in March. “I think it shows our commitment and our unrelenting passion to solve this crime and to give closure not only to the family and his friend but the community as well.”
