Former Mahoning County Deputy pleads guilty to sexual abuse of jail inmate

CLEVELAND, Ohio - A former Mahoning County sheriff's deputy has pleaded guilty to four federal charges of sexual abuse, according to court records.
Damon Perry entered guilty pleas during a change of plea hearing before Judge Donald C. Nugent in U.S. District Court. He pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual abuse of a detainee and two counts of sexual abuse, as outlined in the indictment.
The charges stem from alleged incidents that occurred throughout November 2023 at the Mahoning County Jail. Perry was accused of engaging in sexual conduct with an inmate.
When the indictment in the case was filed in December, Mahoning County Sheriff Jerry Greene told 21 News that his office opened an investigation as soon as they became aware of the allegations. Greene added that Perry resigned from his position once the investigation began.
Perry was referred to the Pretrial/Probation office for a presentence investigation report. Sentencing is scheduled for Sept. 2, 2025.
Perry remains free on bond pending his sentencing
