Newton Falls police chief, finance director looking into grants to revive police department

NEWTON FALLS, Ohio - The Newton Falls Police Chief and the Newton Falls Finance Director are looking into potential grants that could help fund the revival of the Newton Falls Police Department.
Police Chief John Barco told 21 News that he had a meeting scheduled with Finance Director Jamie Vernaccini on Monday to discuss grant options available.
Chief Barco told 21 News on Monday that they will be applying for a mixture of state and federal grants.
The grants applied for, according to Chief Barco, would help the department get new tasers and body cameras, mobile data terminals (MDTs) in police cars and body armor.
A mobile data terminal, according to Chief Barco, is a computer terminal used to receive calls and other information.
It is unknown at this time how much money would be received from grants.
