Mahoning County prosecutor objects to release of three prisoners

YOUNGSTOWN Mahoning County Prosecutor Lynn Maro is objecting to the release of three inmates convicted in separate cases.
The prosecutor's office has filed objections to the parole of Fred Roberts, Johnny Lynn, and Kenneth Moncrief, citing the nature of their original crimes and their disciplinary records while incarcerated.
Roberts, convicted of involuntary manslaughter for the death of his mother and injuring his father in 1993, is serving a sentence of 20 to 50 years. According to the prosecutor's office, Roberts had prison violations between May 2006 and March 2023 and has consistently been classified as a high-security risk.
Lynn was convicted of aggravated murder in 1996 for fatally stabbing a woman over a drug deal. He is serving a sentence of 15 years to life. The prosecutor's office noted that Lynn also has 18 rule infractions, including drug possession, from May 2006 to March 2023.
Moncrief is serving a 15-year-to-life sentence after pleading guilty to murder, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, and arson in 2009. He and a co-defendant were found to have duct-taped two men to chairs and suffocated them before placing their bodies in a burning car. The prosecutor's office stated that Moncrief has had 13 infractions since August 2013, four of which occurred in the last 10 years.
The prosecutor's office said the objections are based on the inmates' histories of disciplinary problems and their potential risk to public safety.
