A teacher and coach at Cardinal Mooney is being recognized by the Ohio Speech and Debate Association (OSDA).

Social studies teacher Allyson Popichak has been named as a recipient of the Linda Miller Award, which aims to recognize outstanding coaches within their first five years of service.

According to a news release, the Linda Miller Award is presented to educators who demonstrate exceptional dedication, passion and a meaningful impact on the speech and debate community.

"Your hard work and commitment to your students and our shared mission have not gone unnoticed," the OSDA noted in its announcement.

Through a strong commitment to students and the mission of speech and debate education, the Association believes that Popichak exemplifies the values the award represents.

The award will be formally presented to Popichak during the opening assembly of the Varsity State Tournament in Youngstown in March 2026.

Cardinal Mooney President Nick Beyer also added the following statement in the news release:

"Cardinal Mooney has a long and proud tradition of excellence in speech and debate, and I am incredibly proud of the leadership and dedication our coach brings to that legacy each day. Through tireless commitment ot students, a passion for excellence and a deep belief in the power of voice and ideas, our coach continues to elevate the program while honoring the standards set by those who came before. This work not only strengthens our team, but also shapes confident, thoughtful leaders who represent Cardinal Mooney with distinction."
