Vienna Township discussing logistics in case of data center proposal

VIENNA TWP., Ohio - Vienna Township officials are discussing logistics in case a proposal is made for a data center in the township.
Township Trustee Phil Pegg tells 21 News there have been no proposals for data centers in the township, nor have there been any indications of a proposal coming.
However, the township is taking preemptive steps to gauge how to address the issue should a proposal come to the township.
Pegg says the township has been considering residents' feedback, noting that it has mostly been negative. However, Pegg says there are some positives to data centers like job creation and economic growth.
However, Pegg says data centers have their downsides too, like the amount of electricity they use. He says if the township does greenlight a data center, it needs to be regulated somehow.
Pegg says the township already has regulations in place like height limits and noise ordinances, and is looking into more regulations for a potential data center that would minimize its impact on residents' electricity bills.
While no developer has shown interest in Vienna Township yet, a developer has proposed one in Lordstown, which was met with mixed reactions from village officials and residents.
Hubbard residents also voiced concerns about a potential data center coming to the city, following reports of a potential technology project near the Deer Creek Golf Course.
Mayor Ben Kyle said at this time, nothing has been set in motion.
