Former Major League Baseball player, Struthers graduate dies

Andy Kosco, a former Valley native and Major League Baseball (MLB) player, has died.
The 84-year-old was raised in Struthers and graduated from Struthers High School and later from Youngstown State University.
At the age of 17, Kosco received dozens of athletic scholarships, including offers from Michigan State and Ohio State, but signed with the Detroit Tigers to join the MLB.
He debuted with the Minnesota Twins in 1965 and went on to play 10 seasons with the New York Yankees, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Cincinnati Reds.
Kosco returned to the Valley after retiring from baseball in 1975 and started working with Goulish-Kosco Insurance. He also earned his bachelor's degree from Youngstown State University during this time.
On Friday, December 19, Kosco died peacefully, surrounded by his family.
