I-80 East reopened after garbage fire in Girard

I-80 East was closed Friday evening near mile markers 226 and 227 following an incident that is believed to be a garbage fire near the Salt Springs Road exit, according to Girard Police dispatch.
The dispatcher says that they first received a call around 4:30 p.m. Friday regarding black smoke being seen near the overpass.
Girard Fire Department officials later confirmed that a large brush fire occurred under the bridge at the 227-mile marker.
ODOT arrived to investigate the cause of the incident, with the Ohio State Highway Patrol present to help assist with the flow of traffic.
As of 6:15 p.m. Friday, a 21 News crew on scene reported that traffic was back to normal. No injuries were reported as of Friday.
