Howland veteran plans soda shop summer opening

The Americana nostalgia and customizability that come along with soda shops are making their way to Howland in Summer 2026 with a new "dirty soda" location.
Dirty Birdies Sodas will serve non-alcoholic, customizable sodas alongside a limited selection of coffee and energy-based drinks. Before the summer opening, Owner Gia Hart-Kokor stated that she plans to host a series of pop-up events to help Howland locals get a taste of what Dirty Birdie Sodas will offer.
"We're excited about all the growth that's happening in this region and decided to stay with what works by opening this new business here," Hart-Kokar stated. "This new venture lets me stay creative and have fun while doing it, which keeps you young."
The golf-themed soda shop also plans to offer its services for corporate events, community gatherings and golf outings.
"Dirty sode might sound new, but the idea goes back over a century. In the early 1900s, soda jerks mixed carbonated water and flavored syrups into all kinds of custom drinks," Hart-Kokar stated. "We're bringing that spirit back with a modern flair."
The veteran-owned, family-friendly soda shop will open in the Howland Plaza on 8260 E Market St. in Warren.
Hart-Kokar served as a U.S. Army First Sergeant and is an Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran.
