Youngstown crews respond to 2 vehicle fires New Year's Day

YOUNGSTOWN Youngstown's police and fire officials responded to two separate vehicle fires early Thursday morning, according to reports.
At approximately 01:34 a.m., two Youngstown police officers were dispatched to McGuffey Road and North Garland Avenue for a reported vehicle fire, a police report states. The Youngstown Fire Department told the officers that the driver had left the scene before emergency crews arrived.
The report states that the vehicle was towed and that a description of the driver is currently unavailable.
Roughly a mile away from the McGuffey Road intersection fire, a Youngstown police officer responded to a vehicle fire on Elk Street, another police report states. The report shows that this vehicle fire occurred around 3 a.m.
Firefighters on scene informed the officer that the vehicle owner had been traveling on East Rayen Avenue when they heard a "pop" shortly before the vehicle caught fire, the report states.
The Youngstown Fire Department stated that the Elk Street fire was not suspicious or considered arson. The vehicle appeared to be a total loss, the report states.
