Ohio's State Board of Education is now looking to fill a significant gap, as it loses an administrative leader.

According to the Ohio State Board of Education, Superintendent of Public Instruction Paul Craft intends to resign from his role.

At the Board's January meeting, Craft stated that he intends to resign from his position no later than July 31. Craft has served as the 40th state superintendent of Ohio since 2023. 

Craft's education career has spanned multiple roles including as a physics teacher, coach, building administrator, along with serving 11 years as a local superintendent. Outside of education, Craft also served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and Army for a total of 31 years.

The Board of Education is now searching for its next state superintendent of public instruction. The role is posted on the Board's website for interested applicants.

Applications for the position will be accepted through February 5.
