The Trumbull County Republican Party has begun its search for Central Committee candidates, urging county Republicans to consider running to fill the positions.

The Trumbull County GOP's Saturday open house was aimed at informing attendees about what the party does and how to enter their names onto the ballot for the Central Committee.

"Being on the Central Committee is a way that someone who just wants to help and has never been involved in politics or governance before can just, behind the scenes, help this machine run well," Trumbull County GOP Chairwoman Julia Shutt said at the event.

The Central Committee is established within the Trumbull County GOP to elect party officers, choose endorsements and support candidates for office, ranging from the school board to the state senate.

"A single idea from a committee meeting can lead to policies that fix roads, support small businesses and protect our schools," Shutt stated.

Shutt says that the grassroots involvement of community members can transform passion into political power. She stated that the GOP is looking for "everyday Republicans" from the county to consider running.

Members of the committee work to shape candidate slates, organize events and volunteer on candidate campaigns. They are also involved in helping put together town hall meetings and mobilize door-to-door volunteers, according to the release.

"We have 158 seats in Trumbull County and they all open up for this May 5th primary. So, all you have to do to get on the ballot is go to your board of elections or stop in here, at the GOP, and fill out one of these forms," Shutt said. "Then it's up to your local people, in your neighborhood, to vote for you."
